XICOM TECHNOLOGY ANNOUNCES NEW COST-SAVING TWTAs FOR DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL BROADCAST INDUSTRIES
APRIL 20, 2006, SANTA CLARA, CALIF. - - - Xicom Technology, a technology leader of high power amplifier products for satellite communication (SATCOM) announced a new family of traveling wave tube amplifiers (TWTAs) for domestic and international broadcast industries. The new TWTAs will provide significant cost savings to the broadcast industry when compared to traditional klystron tube-based technology. Customers can learn more about these products at Xicom's booth, C5448, at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) trade show in Las Vegas, Nevada, April 24 - 27.
Xicom's new TWTAs are designed for SATCOM operation in C-, Ku-, and DBS-bands. The new TWTA models include a built-in block up-converter
(BUC) eliminating the need to run expensive waveguide from the transmission room to the antenna. These amplifiers also benefit the operator with a hub-mounted configuration significantly reducing the cost of indoor climate-controlled facilities required for traditional klystron tube technology.
Additional benefits include the ability to transmit multiple carriers in one system, and 1:1 redundancy options, thereby reducing prime power requirements compared to klystron-based transmit systems. These TWTAs deliver 2.2 kilowatts of peak power in either C-band (5.85 to 6.425 GHz) or Ku-band (13.75 to 14.5 GHz), and 1.2 kilowatts of CW power in the DBS-band (17.3 to 18.1 GHz).
According to Walt Wood, CEO of Xicom Technology, "This new family of high power TWTAs is targeted at the broadcasters who are driven to reduce operational costs, yet meet demanding requirements for performance and reliability. This series of amplifiers can reduce upfront and recurring costs up to 75% when compared to indoor klystron based solutions and yet deliver more power to the antenna feed because they eliminate waveguide and multiplexer losses.”
A Data Sheet of the new family of TWTAs is available which includes detailed specifications, functional block diagrams and package outline drawings.
Xicom Technology, Inc., a Radyne Company (Nasdaq: RADN), was established in 1991 and is a technology leader in the development and manufacturing of high power amplifier products for worldwide commercial and military SATCOM markets. Amplifiers include traveling wave tube amplifiers (TWTAs), solid-state power amplifiers (SSPAs) and Klystron power amplifiers (KPAs) operating in a wide range of communication frequencies. Amplifier products are available for fixed location and mobile applications and are packaged in rack-mount and antenna-mount ODU configurations. For additional information contact:
