SUNNYVALE, CA, July 22, 1998 - Xicom Technology, Inc. has developed a Klystron Power Amplifier (KPA) that is half the height of competitive products. This significant reduction in size allows for a 1:1 Redundant Configuration in a single cabinet. Waveguide switching networks are greatly simplified and RF losses are reduced because of compact amplifier size.

Xicom’s KPAs meet the growing needs of the SATCOM community in two important ways. First, users in need of high power but with limited space now have access to 3,350 Watts in 17 rack units. And reduced height is complimented by reduced weight: Xicom’s KPAs weigh approximately 60% less than competitive units. The compact size of Xicom’s KPAs will allow for a new field of Klystron based mobile applications. For optimal reliability, Xicom’s KPAs include power supply redundancy. Other features include filtering, serial control, variable gain control, a motorized channel selector (up to 24 channels), and extended frequency coverage. The units are offered in C-, Ku-, and DBS-Band configurations, with optional fast-tuning available.
